exam question

"The current revolution in technology is changing the way both producers and audiences think of film and the film experience". How far do you agree with this statement? (40 marks)
I agree that technology is changing the film experience for audiences as they are now able to view films through a wider range of ways then ever before. Before DVD's and the Internet audiences had to go to the cinema to view a film, but then they were able to just wait till it was show on the TV or go and buy a DVD, now however technology is converging so they can even watch them via the Internet and games consoles via websites such as Netfilx, who already has over 11 million US subscribers for a small fee. Therefore watching films has become more of a daily thing rather than a treat or going on the odd occasion due to it becoming so accessible to everyone.
Another way the film experience has changed for audiences is the use of 3D and IMAX cameras, allowing films to be viewed in 3D which enhances the film experience as it makes it seem like the film is more realistic and that your actually there watching it in person rather than watching in on either the big  or small screen.
CGI has also changed the film experience for audiences as it has allowed directors and producers to create more complex scenes. For example AVATAR used CGI and motion capture cameras to become the Highest grossing film of all time because it was setting precedent so millions of people wanted to go and watch it.
Another factor that helped AVATAR's success was the way the producers used the media technology to sell the film. They created a 15 minute preview and soundtrack to which they invited people to view and give oppinions about the film. They also used synergy to create a large amount of ansilery revenue, through board games, video games, action figures and bed covers.
